David Slider was speeding when his Honda CBR 600 motorcycle slammed into a truck
near Park Springs and Green Oaks Boulevard.
That was 16 months and 15 surgeries ago. Now, at age 22, and wheelchair bound,
Slider is a living testament to safe riding. He met the news media Monday to
help the Arlington Police Department launch its new Stay Sharp, Ride SMART
Program, a campaign designed to help reduce the number of fatality-related
motorcycle accidents.
Since 2006, motorcycle accident fatalities have been steadily rising, said
Police Chief Theron Bowman.
“It’s a disturbing trend,” he said. “More people are riding and it’s meant more
injuries and fatalities.”
The message of the Stay Sharp, Ride SMART Program was created by Arlington
police officer Chris Holder. To learn more this safety campaign, visit the
Arlington Police Department web site and click on motorcycle safety.
