Disease outbreaks are inevitable, and often unpredictable, events.
The environment surrounding an outbreak is unique in all of public
health. The City of Arlington offers the following information for our
residents to become informed on major diseases of interest.

The Avian Flu, H5N1 virus, has not yet appeared in the United
States. It is a form of influenza virus that is transmitted from wild
to domestic birds. It is important for all Americans to be informed
about this potential public health threat and to know some of the
steps individuals can take to protect themselves and their families.
The One Stop Access point is the U.S. Government avian and pandemic
flu information web site. It is managed by the Department of Health
and Human Services and is available at
http://www.pandemicflu.gov.

West
Nile virus is a seasonal epidemic in North America that occurs every
summer and continues into the fall. It is a potentially serious
illness. The Center for Diseases Control and Prevention manages a web
site providing information about the virus, how to recognize it and
what to do if infected.
