Disease outbreaks are inevitable, and often unpredictable, events. The environment surrounding an outbreak is unique in all of public health. The City of Arlington offers the following information for our residents to become informed on major diseases of interest.


illustration of a bird The Avian Flu, H5N1 virus, has not yet appeared in the United States. It is a form of influenza virus that is transmitted from wild to domestic birds. It is important for all Americans to be informed about this potential public health threat and to know some of the steps individuals can take to protect themselves and their families.

The One Stop Access point is the U.S. Government avian and pandemic flu information web site. It is managed by the Department of Health and Human Services and is available at http://www.pandemicflu.gov.

The Center for Diseases Control and Prevention manages a web site providing information about the virus, how to recognize it and what to do if infected.
