FOOD HANDLER PERMIT INFORMATION :: GUIDELINES FOR ONSITE FOOD
HANDLER TRAINING
Properly trained food handlers are a key component
of food safety and restaurant sanitation. The City of Arlington
Community Services Department is in partnership with restaurant
owners and managers in this responsibility. For this reason, the
Community Services Department encourage onsite food safety training
of food service personnel by trained restaurant managers. Food Handler
Permits will be issued to employees who have attended any approved
onsite food handler training class which has met the following
guidelines:
The trainer shall be a Registered Food Service Manager with the
City of Arlington
The Certified Food Manager must present his/her certificate at
the Arlington Community Services Department to obtain approval
and receive the training packet necessary for onsite instruction.
Any Certified Food Manager applying for approval will be
required to sign a Use Agreement for any videos issued for
training upon approval.
Onsite training must consist of the video presentation and at
least 45 minutes of oral instruction.
Topics must include:
Proper hand washing, personal hygiene and work restrictions
for all employees.
Proper food handling/protection, the danger zone and safe food
temperatures.
Proper equipment and work area cleaning and sanitizing
methods.
Preventing cross contamination and proper food
protection/storage.
Students must pass the written exam with at least 70% score.
When returning the materials, a typed or legible
hand-written list of all participants’ names and social security
numbers must be accompanied by a completed exam and payment of
required fee ($16.00 for each participant). The Arlington Community Services Department will prepare and mail to the facility a food
handler permit for each participant with a passing score.
Please contact the Community Services Department
at 817-459-6777 for further information.
Note: Suspicion of cheating or other dishonest
activity will disqualify the facility from future onsite instruction
and may forfeit food handler permits.
