There is cash in your trash; you just might
not know it. Waste is a product that has a market whether it be at the
landfill or with a recycler. Your trash could be someone else’s treasure and
throwing it away instead of recycling it is costing you money.
Removing recyclable materials from a waste
stream might not reduce how much material you are producing, but it has the
potential of reducing your costs for waste removal.
Recycling and purchasing recycled material
also benefits the environment. Purchasing materials that have been recycled
means lessening the environmental impact of consumer choices.

three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline.

The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to
heat 50,000,000 homes for 20 years.

American throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every
year.

Every year, each American throws out about 1,200 pounds of organic
garbage that can be composted. |

What are the
benefits of joining the Green Team?
 |
Community Recognition
Members will be
acknowledged by the city through the Green Team website as leaders in
business and stewards of the environment. The commitment to a voluntary
program that benefits citizens, community, and business, should and will be
recognized.
|
 |
Community Accountability
Members keep records of
their recycling efforts and share their successes with the Team. The City of
Arlington supports citizens and businesses that recycle and encourages
everyone to participate in something that concerns us all. Recycling is a
partnership. No one should recycle alone.
|
 |
Community Support
The City is ready to guide you through
a program’s set up. The City can also help identify markets for the
recyclables in your waste stream. Setting up a recycling program can
be easy and rewarding. Partner with the City to help start a program
and track your progress through the course of the year. There is
always something that can be done to help the environment as well as
your bottom line. |
