CPaRlington Strikes Again: Gators have Heart!
Students at Gunn Junior High learned the life-saving skills
of CPR last month as part of a citywide effort to help make
Arlington a safer place. Led by members of the Arlington
Fire Department, over 250 Gunn Gator eight graders practiced
chest compressions and rescue breathing on their own
manikins in an effort to learn how to potentially save a
life someday.
Gunn Principal Lesia Rodawalt, Mayor Robert Cluck, District 4
City Council member Kathryn Wilemon and Fire Chief Robin Paulsgrove
kicked off the training event which continued all day inside of the
gymnasium. Not only was each eighth-grade student taught CPR, they
were also given an important homework assignment: to go home and
teach family members and friends what they learned.
The exercise is part of the CPaRlington initiative that began in
April 2006. Gunn is the fifth junior high school in Arlington to
participate. To date, over 14,000 Arlington residents have taken
part in CPaRlington.
