Protect our waterways and improve your lawn at the same time!
Did you know that grass clippings and other yard waste such as tree leafs are considered a source of pollution when washed directly into surface waters and storm drains? Any materials swept or blown into neighborhood streets and curb inlets along our city streets enter storm drains. The storm drains will carry that waste materials to one of our creeks here in Arlington. Why are grass clippings and other yard waste considered a pollutant? Yard and grass clippings cloud the water and block the sunlight that is essential to aquatic life. The decomposition of yard waste can also lower the oxygen content of the water which can harm fish and other living things.
