ARE YOU TRASHING ARLINGTON?

Trash: Out of Sight, Out of Mind?
Where does trash come from?
From all of us.

Do you know how much effort it takes to keep our city clean? Do you know what the cost is? You can prevent trash in our city by putting trash in its proper place. Don't toss or dump trash in the street, keep it until you find a trash can.

Dumping trash in Texas is against the law, but it still gets dumped into streets, gutters, inlets, culverts, and storm drains. This trash makes its way into our creeks, streams, lakes and rivers. This trash not only pollutes our waterways, but ruins their beauty. Some trash such as six-pack holders can also be hazardous to wildlife.

The following items have been found in storm drains in our area:

Broken glass

Paint

Car batteries

Paper bags

Car parts

Paper cups

Cans/bottles

Plastics

Cigarette butts

Plastic bags

Clothes

Plastic cups

Concrete rubble

Rope

Egg shells

Rubber

Foam plastic pieces

Shopping carts

Food containers

Six-pack holders

Grass clippings

Sticks

Leaves

Straws

Magazines

Tires

Milk cartons

Wrappers

Newspapers

Wood/lumber scraps

Trash Comes from Everywhere:

  • Trash left out over night for animals to scatter.

  • Trash thrown from car windows or blown from the back of pickups.

  • Trash dropped on the streets.

  • Trash deliberately dumped into creeks and storm drain inlets.

  • Trash thrown over the backyard fence.
