AUTO REPAIR & SERVICE FACILITIES :: GENERAL GUIDELINES

The following are general guidelines to maintaining an environmentally friendly automobile service facility.  For specific ordinance requirements, please reference the City of Arlington Storm Water Pollution Control Ordinance, Section 2.01 and Section 3.01.  The official code may be obtained through the City Secretary's Office at 817-459-6186.  An unofficial online version is available at http://www.amlegal.com/arlington_tx.  For questions concerning the Storm Water Pollution Control Ordinance, please call Environmental Services of the Department of Public Works at 817-459-6550 or email publicworks@ci.arlington.tx.us.

Vehicle and Pavement Washing

  • Provide a covered area with a sand and grit trap plumbed to the sanitary sewer.
  • Prevent any wash water from entering the street or storm drain.
  • For additional information, please see our Pavement Cleaning page.

Spills & Leaks

  • Have spill cleanup supplies readily available.
  • Clean up spills and leaks immediately, regardless of whether an employee or customer caused it.
  • Use dry absorbent materials on all spills.
  • Remove the absorbent materials promptly and dispose of properly.
  • If any spill material leaves the property call Environmental Services of the Department of Public Works at 817-459-6550 to report the incident.

Release of Fuel or Other Petroleum Products

  • Call 911
  • Place spill containment material (such as sand, kitty litter or absorbent) along the outer edges and downhill of the spill material.

Dumpsters & Trash Cans

  • Maintain trash areas to prevent the scattering of contents.
  • Do not wash these areas unless capturing the water for disposal in the sanitary sewer system or removal by a waste hauler.
