STORM WATER MANAGEMENT SITE PLAN :: BMP REQUIREMENTS

How many BMPs (Best Management Practices) are required?

The minimum BMPs for each site will be determined by the amount of disturbed area for each site.

Commercial Site

  Min.
BMP
12,000 SF <= DA < 5 acres 1
5 acres <= DA < 10 acres 2
10 acres <= DA < 20 acres 3
DA >= 20 acres 4

Subdivision

Min.
BMP

12,000 SF <= DA < 5 acres 1
5 acres <= DA < 20 acres  2
DA >= 20 acres 3
Subdivisions with paved alleys in addition to streets must provide one BMP above the minimum.
DA = Disturbed Area

The Design Criteria Manual (pdf) has lists of BMPs that may be used in the City of Arlington.  Examples are:

  • Preservation of natural creeks
  • Vegetated swales
  • Non-standard site layouts
  • Subsurface treatment devices
  • Detention/retention ponds
  • Preservation of existing tree canopy

What are the potential benefits of including BMPs in your development?

  • Reduced creek erosion
  • Lots with more mature vegetation
  • Reduced land clearing costs
  • Reduced infrastructure costs
  • Desirable environment for potential homeowners and commercial leases

  • Fewer temporary controls need during construction
