Police Officer Jullian Smith Was Living Her Dream 

This week, the City of Arlington pays tribute to a fallen officer. Police Officer Jillian Michelle Smith died on December 28 responding to a call. The 24-year-old was born and raised in Arlington. She was a 2005 graduate of Juan Seguin High School and 2009 honors graduate of UT-Arlington. In August 2010, she graduated from the Arlington Police Department Academy. "Officer Smith was living her dream of being an Arlington Police Officer," said Mayor Robert Cluck. "The City of Arlington mourns the loss and grieves with her family as well as her police family." Officer Smith is the second Arlington Police Officer lost in the line of duty in 2010 and the eighth in the Arlington Police Department's history. Memorial information.

Four Day Homage Begins Jan. 14 with Banquet

The Rev. Samuel Billy Kyles, the eyewitness to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, is slated to give the keynote address on Jan. 14 at the Arlington "Sharing the Dream" Awards Banquet. The event kicks off four days of celebrations that also include a step competition, multicultural festival, an evening of spoken word and poetry, memorial ecumenical service, a day of service and a youth musical extravaganza. Schedule.

Deputy City Manager Retires

Fiona Allen to End Career in City Government

Deputy City Manager Fiona Allen has announced retirement plans. Her last day with the City of Arlington will be Feb. 28. Over the past 20 years, Allen has led a number of high profile development projects, including Interstate 30 Mobility, the 2008 bond program and construction of Ranger's Ballpark in Arlington and Cowboys Stadium. Arlington City Manager Jim Holgersson said he is "saddened to see her leave, but happy for her as she looks forward to retirement and her new opportunities." Read more.

Fire Department Wants You to Know Danger Signs

Every year in the United States, carbon monoxide (co) poisoning claims over 400 lives and sends another 20,000 people to the hospital.  In an effort to decrease the number of carbon monoxide poisoning incidents in the city, the Arlington Fire Department is asking residents and businesses to know the danger signs associated with carbon monoxide poisoning.
