Light Up Arlington
Fireworks Come
to Downtown on July 3
|
 This
year, Arlington fireworks show is
moving downtown for Independence
Day. The annual Light Up the
Lake event is no longer at the
lake. City organizers say the move
will help accommodate larger crowds,
improve safety, and provide quality
staging areas for live musical
performances, children's activities
and vendors. Fireworks will begin at
9:45 p.m. from the rooftop of the
eight-story City Tower. Add to that,
the new park, pavilion and July 4
Independence Day Parade, and
everything comes together for an
exciting weekend of explosive fun!

A Life Saver
City Employee
Recognized for Life-Saving Act
|
 Code
Compliance Officer Lesley
Jenkins was put in a position to
help. She was recognized this
month for doing just that.
Arlington City officals say
she's a shining example of how
City of Arlington employees are
always looking out for the best
interest of residents. During a
special recognition program at
Arlington City Council Meeting
on June 9, Mayor Robert Cluck
challenged all City of Arlington
employees to learn the basic
life-saving skills of CPR.
"Lesley Jenkins shows us just
how important our employees are
to the community we serve,"
Cluck said.

Making Books Come
Alive
Librarians Turn Storytime
Into an Adventure
|
Bob
Kapsos doesn't just tell stories to his
pint-size group of listeners - he
becomes the story. His voice shifts
upward, his body moves, his eyes dance.
One moment he's the donut that doesn't
want to be eaten and the next the frog
that wants to turn into a prince. Kapsos
is just one of a number of staffers in
the Arlington Public Library whose gift
of vibrant storytelling comes in handy
this time of year.

A Welcoming Place
Stadium Designed with
Accessibility in Mind
|
 The
$1.1 billion Cowboys Stadium was
designed with accessibility in
mind. Accessible parking,
power-assisted doors and
accessible-ready ramps, restrooms,
concessions and water fountains are
just a few of the amenities
showcased in the 2.3 million
square-foot facility during the 26th
Annual Barbara Jordan Media Awards
Luncheon on June 12. The
statewide event drew more than 350
guests to the new Cowboys Stadium.
There were special awards, vendors
and a silent auction that benefitted
the Movin' Mavs Wheelchair
Basketball program. This event was
hosted by the Arlington and Texas
Governor's Committees on People With
Disabilities. Read
