Arlington Mayor Discusses H1N1
Influenza and Coordinated Efforts |
Within the Arlington community, there is
cause for concern, not alarm, said Mayor
Robert Cluck who delivered a message of
calm, coordination and prevention during
a news conference this week at City
Hall. To date, Arlington has no
confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza.
The CDC is currently investigating six
possible cases in Arlington. The key to
protecting yourself from influenza is
education and prevention.

More Commuters Are Climbing Aboard The T
Ridership
in Commuter Bus Program is Growing
|
After
only six months of operation, ridership on
The T is picking up. Arlington
residents parking their vehicles to hop The
T from two Arlington Park and Ride Lots rave
about the convenience of getting to Fort
Worth and back. Passengers are dropped
off in downtown Fort Worth where they can
catch other buses, trolleys and taxis,
including the Trinity Railway Express. Since
the program began Sept. 1, The T picks up
about 500 passengers a week. That is the
equivalent of removing 264 cars from the
freeways a week. For bus schedules and daily
passes, visit www.arlingtontx.gov/bus.
Coming next issue: Who's riding
The T? Climb aboard and meet a few of
the passengers.

Fire Station No. 3
Re-Opens in Grand Style |

Fire Station No. 3 re-opened on
April 25 with Arlington City Council
members boarding a fire truck and
driving through fire line tape to
symbolize the completion of $1.3
million in construction. The rebuild
more than doubles the size of the
station, which includes a pair of
drive-through engine bays, a fitness
room, additional storage rooms, six
individual sleeping quarters
and restroom facilities. Three
four-member crew shifts are assigned
to this station. Each shift includes
a lieutenant, an apparatus operator
and two fire fighters. And with its
new design and engine bays located
in the back of the station, it
blends nicely with neighborhood
homes. What's next? The rebuild of
Fire Station No. 4 on West Randol
Mill Road is nearing completion.
Watch for the grand re-opening this
summer.

Lights Out...By Design
Streetlight Program Measures Energy
Savings
|
|
In an effort to save energy and reduce light
pollution, the City of Arlington has turned
off every other streetlight along Green Oaks
Boulevard from Collins Street to Matlock
Road as part of a pilot program to determine
potential savings. Public Works and
Transportation Director Bob Lowry says the
program will last 60 days and be used to
determine if streetlight design standards
might require modification in other parts of
the city. Read
