Volunteers Blanket City for Street Count
The Arlington Homeless numbered 398 last year during the Tarrant County Homeless Count, and over 50 tireless volunteers hit the streets and shelters again on a brisk Thursday night. E-Arlington was there to talk with volunteers as they conducted a comprehensive survey and street count of homeless persons in the city. Full story.

'Just Doing the Right Thing'

A Daddy Daughter Date
Annual Dance is Feb. 7 at Convention Center
Join decked out dads and dainty daughters for the annual soiree Feb. 7 at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way. The traditional Daddy Daughter Dance, put on by the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, allows fathers the opportunity for a night out with their daughters in a formal, festive setting. Each daughter receives a cosage and keepsake photograph. Limo rides available. Cost is $30 per couple. You can register at any City recreation center or call 817-459-5474 for information.
The Big DTV Switch is Feb. 17
The switch to digital television is Feb. 17, for now. On Thursday, the Senate passed legislation that would push the Feb. 17 digital television deadline to June 12. A House vote is set for Tuesday. If the deadline holds, television broadcasters will on Feb. 17 shut off analog signals and air only digital programming. (The idea is to free up airwaves for public safety networks and new wireless services.) That means if you rely on older analog TV sets and antennas to receive broadcasts, you'll have to upgrade to a digital TV set, connect to cable or satellite, or install a converter to get signals. Click here for additional information.
