"We Did It ..."
Neighborhood Makes Good Use of
Matching Grant Program
|
 Rolling
Hills Estates is a quiet residential
neighborhood of about 115 homes with
large oak trees, winding streets and
hills in north Arlington. It was one of
the first neighborhoods to receive funds
from the City of Arlington Neighborhood
Matching Grant Program. You can see the
result when driving along Cooper Street
at Washington Street. You'll be welcomed
by new gateway entry signage
and landscaping. "I'm very proud of what
we've been able to do," says Thelia
Chaffin, vice-president of the Rolling
Hills Neighborhood Association, which
received the $3,000 grant.
"The city worked with us to get it all
done." Things went so well that Chaffin
was able to persuade her neighbors to
come up with an additional $700 for
street sign toppers. "We did it," said
Chaffin, who has lived in Rolling Hills
for 10 years. "We love our rolling
hills, our trees, and how we're coming
together to make our neighborhood
better." Want to know how your neighborhood
can get funds through the Neighborhood
Matching Grant Program? Click

Fall Back One Hour
Change Clocks, Change Batteries in Smoke
Detectors
|
The Arlington Fire Department reminds
residents to change batteries in smoke
detectors when rolling clocks back one
hour on Nov. 2.
Daylight-saving time ends at 2
a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. Because the
winter means more heating systems to
warm homes and structures, Nov. 2 is a
good time to change batteries in smoke
detectors while re-setting clocks. Free
smoke detectors, installation and
replacement batteries are available for
Arlington's elderly and low income
residents. Call the Arlington Fire
Department at 817-459-5500 for more
information. Click

daylight-saving time.
