TRAINING
It is the goal of the Training Department to provide a comprehensive
training program for Communications Recruits that allows adequate
opportunity for them to gain the skills and certifications necessary to
perform the job.
There is a three-stage Training Program designed to meet the training
needs of the recruit. This program consists of both classroom and
on-the-job-training.
Stage 1 – Recruits will complete a five (5) week Telecommunicator
Academy which consists of classroom instruction and hands-on training. The
text and course study follows TCLEOSE 1013 standards, which provides a
curriculum based on job responsibilities.
Stage 2 – This phase consists of on-the-job training with a Communications
Training Operator (CTO), who will guide, direct, document, and give the
recruit feedback on their performance.
Stage 3 – The recruit will work independently with a CTO performing
quality assurance on the recruit’s performance. Feedback will be given to
the recruit from both their shift supervisor and monitoring CTO.
In addition to the initial training a recruit receives, all employees
of Dispatch Services are required to attend 24 hours of in-service
training each year.
