  • Ability to obtain required information  from distraught and irate callers
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally, with a clear and understandable voice, transpose conversation/information in logical order, listen/comprehend and articulate over radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Minimum requirements are:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to type 35 w.p.m.
  • Two years' typing/data entry and customer service experience
  • Ability to work any shift, including days, evenings, midnights, weekends, and holidays.  Mandatory overtime, sometimes on short notice, can be required.

The starting salary for Apprentice Telecommunicators is currently $2551 per month.  Once the Apprentice Telecommunicator satisfactorily completes an 8-month probationary period, he/she is promoted to the position of Telecommunicator with a beginning salary of $2692 per month.  If the employee is assigned to evening shift or midnight shift, a 6% shift differential is paid.
