ELECTION INFORMATION :: QUALIFICATIONS TO RUN FOR CITY COUNCIL
The qualifications to run for City Council are as follows:
- Must be a United States citizen;
- Must be eighteen (18) years of
age;
- Must have resided continuously
in the State for twelve (12) months and in the territory from which the office
is elected for six (6) months;
- Shall not be indebted to the
City, shall not hold any other public office of emolument, shall not be
interested in the profits or emoluments of any contract, job, work or service
for the City, or interested in the sale to the City of any supplies, equipment,
material or articles purchased;
- Must reside and be
registered to vote within the boundaries of the City of Arlington at the time of
filing for the election;
- If filing for a Single
Member District, must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of
their respective District at the time of filing for the election;
- Have not been determined
mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court;
- Have not been finally
convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise
released from the resulting disabilities;
- Must pay $100.00 filing
fee (cash, certified or cashier’s check or postal money order) or have
petition (forms furnished by City Secretary), signed by registered, qualified
voters of the City of Arlington; or if Single Member Districts, signed by
registered, qualified voters of the district from which the office is sought.
