ELECTION INFORMATION :: NOVEMBER 6, 2007 ELECTION ::
YOUTH, FAMILY & SENIOR INITIATIVES:
Year 1 - $450,000, Year 2 - $450,000
- Senior Savvy Computer and Fraud
Protection Programs: Funding for equipment and programming.
The series will include basic computer skills, Internet and
email skills, as well as instruction on “staying safe” on the
Internet or while using email in the senior activity centers,
the recreation centers and the libraries. Ongoing free computer
fraud/identity theft workshops will also be held each quarter in
numerous locations for seniors already possessing basic computer
skills.
- Youth Sports Programs.
Funding in this area will provide scholarships to identified
children and youth for sports leagues at City recreation centers
and sports fields.
- After-School Program.
After-school programs for junior high school students will be
offered in two school locations in year one, and expanded to two
more locations at recreation centers in year two )for a total of
four locations.) Each location will have the capacity to serve
60 youth.
- Teen Program. Teen
Program Coordinator, supplies and equipment. Funding will be
used to fund teen centers at two recreation centers. A Teen
Program Coordinator will administer the four recreation centers
and teen programs.
- Camp Scholarships.
Funding would be used to provide scholarships to summer camps
for identified children and youth.
- Literacy Initiative: 1
Literacy Coordinator. The Literacy Coordinator would administer
a library-based literary program providing one-on-one tutoring
in reading and math skills by volunteer tutors. The Literacy
Coordinator will also coordinate and administer literacy
programming for approximately 2,500 clients on an annual basis
and support other community literacy programs such as LIFT, Hope
Tutoring and ESL classes.
