The City of Arlington
operates under the Council-Manager form of government. Under this system, the council
appoints the city manager who acts as the chief executive officer of the government. The
city manager carries out policy and administers city programs. The
city manager has three deputy managers.
The city attorney, municipal court judges, health
officer and city auditor are also appointed by and responsible to the City Council. All other officials and
department heads are hired by and responsible to the city manager.
