How do I find out when my recycling is collected?

Recyclables are collected once a week on one of your regular garbage collection days. Recyclables will be collected in a separate truck from the regular garbage truck.

You can recycle newspapers and magazines, aluminum and tin cans, clear, brown and green glass, and plastic jugs and bottles. Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, phone books, office paper, flattened cereal boxes are also recyclable. Cardboard must be flat and fit inside the recycling bin.

How do I find out what days my trash or brush is collected?

Arlington Disposal holds the city contract for curbside trash removal. Trash removal occurs twice per week and those days vary depending on the part of town in which you live. Brush is collected at the same time as trash, however, it must be tied in four foot bundles, weighing less than 50 pounds each. Brush is collected at the rate of one cubic yard per pick up day. In the interest of saving landfill space, grass clippings may not be placed for disposal.

Are there regularly scheduled clean-up days in Arlington? How can my neighborhood participate?

Two days each year are scheduled for clean-up throughout the city. The clean-ups are usually in April and October. A notice is sent one month prior to the clean-up in the water bill. There are designated sites throughout the city to which you can take items. Proof of Arlington residency is required. Items that can be disposed of are trash, brush, tires, bulky items, and lead acid batteries.

Can my neighborhood get assistance for a clean-up in between city-wide clean-up days?

Neighborhood organizations are encouraged to participate in clean-ups during the regularly scheduled citywide clean-up days. During the citywide clean-ups, drop off sites are located throughout the City. Organizations can conduct a neighborhood clean-up at anytime without the City’s approval.

How can we get a dumpster for our neighborhood clean-up?

Dumpsters are available for rent through Arlington Disposal. Prices for dumpsters vary depending on the size of the dumpster and length of rental. Arlington Disposal will charge you on a weekly or monthly basis. A deposit is required and usually the dumpster is set out the next day after a service agreement has been signed. There is no time limit for the rental.
