NEIGHBORHOOD ACADEMY 2008
“Reinvigorating Arlington’s Neighborhoods”

What:
6 week course series to enhance neighborhood organization effectiveness, community building, and information about accessing city services;
3 weeks in class and a 3 week service project.

When:
Weekly on Thursdays, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
January 17 through March 27, 2008
April 2008: America’s Promise National & Global Youth Service Day
May 2008: Service Project Presentations and Academy Course Evaluation
June 2008: Neighborhood Month and Academy Graduation

Where: City Council Briefing Room
3rd Floor, City Hall, 101 W. Abram

Cost: Free

Who Attends: Any Arlington resident or community stakeholder who wants to help with Reinvigorating Arlington’s Neighborhoods.

Tracts will include the following:

Basic Track – Neighborhood Asset Inventory
Leadership Track – Neighborhood Preservation
Youth Tract – Neighborhood Youth Leadership

Sessions will include the following topics:

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)
How to start a Neighborhood Association
Building Neighborhood Partnerships and Collaborations
Grant Writing and Grant Proposal Development
Neighborhood Plans and Priorities
501(c)3 “To be or Not to be”
Cultivating Neighborhood Youth Leadership

Graduation and Community-Wide Neighborhood Celebration.
Join us as we honor our Academy graduates at a community-wide celebration during the month of June 2008!
