Mayor Cluck Enters into a World Series Wager with St. Louis Mayor
After finding out that the
Texas Rangers will battle the
St. Louis Cardinals in the
2011 World Series, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck on Tuesday
announced the stakes of this year’s World Series wager with St.
Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
As has become tradition in Arlington, Mayor Cluck has agreed to send
local food favorites from
Olenjack’s
Grille,
Spring
Creek Barbeque, and
Marquez Bakery should the Cardinals defeat the Rangers in the baseball
championship. But Mayor Cluck has so much faith in the Rangers that
he’s throwing in
Nolan Ryan steaks,
too.
“It’s always fun to make a friendly wager,” said Mayor Cluck. “It’s
a way to show support for our team. We believe the Texas Rangers’
winning streak will continue to a World Series victory and this
year, in addition to some great Texas barbeque, we’re raising the
ante with Nolan Ryan steaks.”
The package Mayor Cluck expects to see in Texas courtesy of Mayor
Slay includes Pi pizza, Pappy's barbeque, Park Avenue gooey butter
cake, Crown Candy Kitchen chocolate, Schlafly beer, and a St. Louis
Symphony Orchestra CD.
Mayor Slay will be disappointed if he has to miss out on Arlington’s
food package, especially the Nolan Ryan steaks.
"I'm looking forward to enjoying the Nolan Ryan steaks after the St.
Louis Cardinals win the team's 11th World Series," said Mayor Slay.
"Our city is known for its baseball first, but its great food is a
close second. We're so confident that the Cardinals will win that we
are willing to wager a ‘Taste of St. Louis’ package.”
The World Series begins Wednesday, Oct. 19, in St. Louis for Games 1
and 2 before the teams travel to Texas for Games 3, 4, and 5 (if
necessary). Games 6 and 7 would be played in St. Louis if needed.
