The Dylan Chambers Band is the winner of the Virtual Battle of the
Bands Competition launched this summer by the Arlington Public
Library to drum up excitement for reading and libraries.
The Dylan Chambers Band will perform live Tuesday at the Teen
Library Card Kickoff Event at the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing
Arts. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free to the public.
Lead vocals Dylan Chambers, age 17, is a senior at Martin High
School and has enjoyed starring roles in plays at Martin High School
and Theater Arlington.
Daniel Henkel, age 17, back-up vocals and bass guitar, is a senior
at Lamar High School. He is president of the Lamar High School
Marching Band. He is also a lead guitar/singer in the youth praise
band at First United Methodist Church.
Alex Henkel, Daniel's twin brother, is a drummer and percussionist
at Lamar High School, where he is a drumline captain and jazz band
percussionist. He also plays in the youth praise band at First
United Methodist Church.
The Dylan Chambers Band features music for the whole family, much of
it written by Dylan Chambers.
“Honestly, I have never been so thrilled about a show,” he said.
“The Levitt is a great venue for every age group. I, along with the
rest of the band, feel honored to be performing on Tuesday.”
Young Adult Services Librarian Jennifer Ethington said the virtual
band contest was a creative way to market the new MyCard@MyLibrary
campaign for teens. The contest drew six entries, she said.
The second place winner is Tacychardia, which is comprised of four
Lamar High School students. The third place winner is Eccotone,
comprised of three Lamar High School students. Both bands will
perform Tuesday.
As part of the Teen Library Card campaign, the library also launched
a video commercial contest. The top three commercials and honorable
mentions will debut on the big screen at Tuesday’s event. Learn more
