Sue Phillips, Marc Stach, Ed Gutierrez and Alisa Simmons were among
250 Arlington residents recognized recently for their volunteer
service to the city.
At the Boards and Commissions Reception on Aug. 26, Arlington City
Council members joined volunteers for an evening of appreciation.
Some members are ending terms in office while others are just
beginning. Pam Roach was selected the 2009 Volunteer of the Year.
“This year’s Volunteer of the Year has spent nearly two decades
working with public, private, and nonprofit organizations on
important community development initiatives,” said Mayor Pro Tem
Lana Wolff.
She has “generously devoted her talent and countless volunteer hours
to advancing the future of Arlington,” Wolff said.
Since 2007, Pam Roach has served as the chairperson of the Arlington
Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. She is a member
of the SuperBowl XLV Host Committee Board of Directors and has
served three terms on the Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission,
two years a vice chair.
“I am only continuing a legacy of community service that was
instilled in me as a young child," Pam Roach said. “I was taught by
my mother that no matter where I go, I should always try to leave
things better than when I came. That’s why this recognition is such
an honor.”
